Immigration Status
Understand your status
A visa is an official authorization appended to a passport, permitting entry into and travel within a particular country or region.
It will depend on how long you want to go for, why you want to go, and certain other factors as to which of the visas you must apply for.
Types of visas in the United States
The United States offers a range of immigration opportunities and probably does more than most other countries to encourage skilled workers to move there. These are the main visa categories, plus a work permit option:
Skilled Worker
The Skilled Worker Visa is the most popular way of applying for migration to the United States. It allows you to enter with the right to work without first needing to find a job. Find out if you qualify using the Skilled Worker Points Calculator.
Business Class
US Business Immigration offers three different Business Visa categories for potential migrants wishing to invest or start a business in the United States.
Family Class
US citizens and permanent residents eighteen years of age or older may sponsor close relatives or family members who want to become permanent residents.
Citizenship
Although you cannot apply for citizenship until you have lived in the US for at least three years, you can start learning what it means from the moment you arrive.
Work Permits
A work permit can only be obtained if you have a job offer before applying for your work visa. The US seeks temporary skilled workers to fill positions employers are having difficulty filling locally.
Visit Visa
Visit the United States with a US Tourist Visa, valid for up to six months.
