Notes on immigration

Immigration is the act of immigrating; the passing or coming into a country for the purpose of permanent residence.

We can define an immigrant as a person who migrates from another country, usually for permanent residence.

We consider immigration, in the most simplistic terms, to mean the movement of people between different countries. The constant movement of peoples has been common throughout human history; however, modern immigration requires long-term, legal, permanent residence.
